The Alabama Crimson Tide are ranked No. 6 in the country. They’ve rattled off 5 straight wins, the last 3 of which came against ranked foes. Despite this, quarterback Ty Simpson is operating as if his squad is about to play for the national championship.

On Tuesday morning after practice, offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor told reporters that Simpson blasted the offense in Monday’s team meeting. The junior tackle wasn’t mad about it, though. He believes it speaks to Simpson’s leadership and motivational abilities.

“[Ty Simpson is] just a great leader, speaks all the time. Ripped our ass when we were in the team meeting yesterday,” Proctor said. “He knows how to get us riled up.”

The Crimson Tide defeated the Missouri Tigers 27-24 on the road last Saturday. Simpson didn’t light up the stat sheet — 23/31 (74.2%), 200 yards — but threw 3 passing touchdowns to lead Alabama to victory. His supposed ripping of the offense likely stemmed from the 4 sacks he absorbed and paltry 2.9 yards per carry the team averaged against the Tigers.

Simpson knows the Crimson Tide can’t afford to let their foot off the gas as they traverse an incredibly difficult schedule. Alabama hosts a fourth consecutive ranked foe (No. 11 Tennessee) in Week 8. Kickoff between the Volunteers and Crimson Tide is set for 7:30 p.m. E.T. on Oct. 18 (ABC).
