Kansas City Chiefs, star defender Chris Jones agree to terms on contract extension

Chris Jones will be staying in Kansas City for the long haul.
Kansas City had assigned the franchise tag to the star defender this offseason following the team’s Super Bowl win but Jones balked at playing under the one-year deal during the 2020 NFL season. Now that will no longer be an issue for the defensive lineman moving forward.
News of Kansas City and the former Mississippi State standout agreeing to terms on a contract extension was first reported by ESPN NFL insider Chris Mortensen. Following his report, his colleague at ESPN Adam Schefter reported the details of Jones’ new deal in Kansas City.
“Chiefs are giving franchise DT Chris Jones a four-year, $85 million deal that includes $60 million in guarantees, per source,” Schefter reported on Tuesday.
In a follow-up to those deals, Schefter is reporting that Jones will earn $37 million for signing his new deal, $60 million is guaranteed for injury and the four-year deal is worth up to $85 million if Jones hits all the incentives in his contract
Not a bad deal for a kid from Houston, Miss., and a former second-round pick from Mississippi State in the 2016 NFL Draft.
