Kentucky OC Liam Coen believes Wildcats’ offense is ‘going to be special’ when it clicks

Kentucky has opened the 2021 season with 5 consecutive wins. It has already taken down SEC rivals Missouri, South Carolina and Florida. And it’s now ranked No. 16 in the country.
However, the Wildcats aren’t complacent. They know there are areas they still need to improve to continue having success, including on the offensive side of the ball.
While Kentucky’s offense has rolled at times, it’s struggled at others. There’s the potential for the unit to become more consistent and put up bigger numbers than it has been. On Tuesday, Wildcats offensive coordinator Liam Coen told reporters (including Derek Terry of 247Sports.com) that he’s excited to watch that as it happens.
โI couldnโt be more happy and proud of the way these guys have played. Itโs going to click,โ Coen told the media. โItโs going to click. Itโs clicked at times. Weโve shown flashes in multiple different games, different situations, whether it be red zone or third down, weโve been very good and weโve also not been very good. When it does click, itโs going to be special. Just stay the course. When youโre 5-0, it is tough, but itโs actually better for us, because weโre not sitting there 5-0 like weโre just all good. Weโre sitting there 5-0 and hungry to get it right.โ
Kentucky has plenty of room for improvement. It currently ranks 10th in the SEC with 397.4 total yards per game and ninth with 28.8 points per game. The Wildcats have some tough competition coming up, though — they host LSU this Saturday and play on the road against No. 2 Georgia the following week — so they’ll continue to be tested while trying to get better.
Coen is currently in his first season as Kentucky’s offensive coordinator after spending the previous 3 seasons as an assistant for the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL.
Kentucky and LSU are set to kick off on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
