Kentucky officially announces the hiring of defensive coordinator Matt House

While news of Matt House’s promotion to defensive coordinator was broke early Monday, now it’s official. The former inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator earned the promotion after two of his players had standout seasons for Kentucky in 2016.
Sophomore Jordan Jones earned All-SEC honors and Nebraska transfer Courtney Love finished third on the team in tackles after some initial struggles adjusting to life in the SEC.
“I’m very excited to name Matt our defensive coordinator,” Mark Stoops said via a school release. “He brings a wealth of experience and great passion for the game. In just one year, Matt has made a very good impression as the special teams coordinator and as a defensive coach. As the special teams coordinator, I’ve seen Matt’s leadership in front of the entire team.”
Taking over Kentucky’s defense will be the third time House has been a defensive coordinator after serving as FIU’s DC in 2015 and Pitt’s DC in 2013-14.
“I appreciate the opportunity Coach Stoops is giving me,” Matt House said in the release. “I’m excited to continue building the vision he has for the program and I’m excited to continue to grow and improve as a defensive unit.”
According to the release, Stoops plans to hire another a special teams coordinator to replace House in that role. The Kentucky coach also plans to name a new linebackers coach.
