Kentucky fans will get an early look at Will Stein’s first team in Lexington on April 18. The Wildcats have set a Spring Game for that date at Kroger Field.
Stein is bringing back the Spring Game after Kentucky decided not to have one last season under Mark Stoops. The former Oregon offensive coordinator is already bringing some much-needed change to the Kentucky football program.
It’s tough not to be excited about the upcoming Will Stein era at Kentucky. The Wildcats under Stoops were as good as they’ve been in a long time, but it’s a system that hadn’t seen progress in over a few years. Following 10-win seasons in 2018 and 2021, Stoops failed to reach a bowl across 2 consecutive years.
In this day and age, a great hire can change everything. Just ask Indiana fans.
Under Stein, Oregon’s offense was routinely considered one of the best in the country. The Ducks averaged over 425 yards of offense per game during all three seasons Stein spent in Eugene. The Ducks were especially great in 2023, finishing second in the country in total yards per game with 531. For reference, Kentucky finished Stoops’ final season averaging just 341 yards of offense per game.
So not only is Kentucky hosting a Spring Game, but fans are likely to see an improved – if not, at least, fun – offense from the Wildcats.
