Kewan Lacy discusses facing Lane Kiffin in Week 3: ‘Really don’t have a relationship with him’

September 19 has been circled on the calendars of Ole Miss fans for months.
But in just a few short days, Lane Kiffin and LSU will be at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Kiffin’s achievements with the Rebels — there are many — no longer matter in Oxford, as he’s considered a pariah after his high-profile departure for the Tigers.
Kewan Lacy spent 2024, his first season, at Mizzou before transferring to Ole Miss and becoming one of the top running backs in the country. Instead of following Kiffin, he opted to remain with the Rebels, where he’s posted 138 yards and three touchdowns so far.
So, how is Lacy’s relationship with his former coach?
“Really don’t have a relationship with him. Just focused on the season,” he said on Tuesday.
Lacy understands the storylines surrounding the game. The fact that the Magnolia Bowl will feature two top-10 opponents for the first time since the 1960s is almost secondary to the main headline of Kiffin’s return.
Lacy, though, is trying to tune all of that out.
“(We’re just) focusing on our details and our preparation, just focusing on the main thing, just our alignment assignment and what we need to accomplish as a team,” he said.
