Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs saw their 33-game home winning streak end on Saturday night as Alabama came into Athens and won, 24-21.

The Crimson Tide set the tone from the very beginning of the game, as quarterback Ty Simpson was in complete control the entire night. He was 24-of-38 for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns, and didn’t make the mistake that the Bulldogs are usually able to force from opposing quarterbacks.

On Sunday, Smart talked about what makes Simpson such a tough player to stop.

“This quarterback is accurate,” Smart said. “He’s on time. He knows his protections. Watch the third downs and see. We have free runners at the quarterback and he gets the ball out. We get a free runner at the quarterback, he breaks a tackle, spins out and throws a completion. Play zone, he hits you in a soft spot. He made some really really good plays.”

Since the Week 1 loss to Florida State, Simpson has been as good of quarterback as there is in college football. He has thrown for 1,138 yards, 11 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

He does a tremendous job of taking what the defense is willing to give up, and putting the ball in a spot to allow his elite receivers to go out and make those game-changing plays.

During the long home winning streak, the Bulldogs are usually able to force the opposing quarterback to make a big mistake. Even when Georgia stole the momentum in the second half, the Bulldogs just couldn’t make that one game-changing play.
