Last Saturday’s thrilling game between Georgia and Tennessee was truly inexplicable.

There were two touchdowns — and thus two lead-changes in the span of less than 20 seconds. The 43-yard Hail Mary completion from UT QB Josh Dobbs to WR Jauan Jennings gave the Volunteers an inexplicable 34-31 victory over the rival Bulldogs.

On Monday, Georgia Kirby Smart had to relive the last-second score during his weekly press conference. He proceeded to delve into the specifics of the play:

“To be honest, every kid on the field executed their job. We got a little boxed out by Jauan Jennings, but it wasnโ€™t like you can watch the play and say โ€˜This guy didnโ€™t do what I told him to do.โ€™ We got out-jumped and he timed his jump a lot better than we did, which I think everybody saw.”

Smart then spoke about Georgia’s preparation for situations such as defending a Hail Mary attempt. Suffice it to say, but it may have truly been a perfect storm of bad luck and a fantastic play by the Tennessee receiver:
“Thatโ€™s what we practiced. Thatโ€™s what we practiced in camp. Thatโ€™s what we walk through. Thatโ€™s what we do everyย Thursday. We just simply went with our philosophy. We believed and trusted in that. Thatโ€™s not to say itโ€™ll be the same all the time, by all means.”
