Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs enter Saturday’s Week 7 clash with Kentucky as the No. 1-ranked team in the Associated Press Top 25.

Smart was asked bout the No. 1 ranking when he visited “The Paul Finebaum Show” on UGA campus Friday. Finebaum asked Smart if being No. 1 “matters at all.” Smart said it does not matter right now, only come College Football Playoff time.

โ€œNot really. I mean, it doesnโ€™t,โ€ Smart told Finebaum. โ€œI think you worry more about the way it affects your players and the team and social media and those things but, it matters that you get in those playoffs. Thatโ€™s the key, is being in the top four. It doesnโ€™t matter what youโ€™re ranked now or later. It matters at the end.โ€

A win over No. 11 Kentucky would help Smart’s squad boost its resume for No. 1 when the CFP selection committee starts ranking teams. UGA-UK face off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
