Kirby Smart voices displeasure with QBs Jake Fromm, Justin Fields after second scrimmage

Quarterback is a position of strength for Georgia entering the season. The Bulldogs have sophomore Jake Fromm, the returning starter, and freshman Justin Fields, a 5-star prospect who was the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2018 class.
But after Saturday’s scrimmage, the second of Georgia’s preseason, coach Kirby Smart wasn’t happy with the performances from Fromm and Fields.
“I was not real pleased with either guy,” Smart told the media.ย “I didnโt think either one of the guys played exceptionally well today, maybe we put too much on them, maybe asked too much of them today. Because we didnโt go out there and three yards and a cloud of dust. We said, ‘Letโs open it up a little bit, letโs throw it around a little bit and see how they do,’ and I didnโt think that was great.”
Fromm is returning as starter after an impressive freshman season in which he passed for 2,615 yards and 24 touchdowns, leading the Bulldogs to an SEC championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff.
It’s likely that Fromm and Fields will straighten it out and have better showings before Georgia’s season begins on Sept. 1, when the Bulldogs host Austin Peay in their opener.
