Kirk Herbstreit called his shot Thursday when he went on The Pat McAfee Show.
Oregon will lose on the road to Iowa.
One of the most prominent voices in all of college football seems to be taking the 20th-ranked Hawkeyes in a major upset spot in Week 11. The Hawkeyes are 6-2 on the year. They’re coming off a bye, and their last outing was a 41-3 trouncing of Minnesota that featured touchdowns from all 3 phases of the game.
Oregon (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) sits at No. 9 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings. And the only Big Ten loss the program has suffered to date came last month to the No. 2 team in those same rankings.
“I’m telling you. We all love Dan Lanning. We all love the Ducks and their potential. But there’s just something about certain teams at Iowa. … If it were a night game, it would be a given it’d be a loss,” Herbstreit said. “It’s gonna get dark in the second half, and I’m telling you, Iowa’s gonna be just typical Iowa.”
The visit from the Ducks on Saturday will mark the 10th time since the start of the 2015 season that Iowa has hosted an AP Top 15 team at Kinnick Stadium for a game.
In the previous 9, the Hawkeyes have 4 outright wins. The other 5 games have been decided, on average, by a little less than a touchdown.
Per the latest odds from BetMGM, Oregon is a favorite of exactly that in this game. The Ducks are favored by 6.5 points. The public disagrees with Herbstreit, though. At the time of publication, two-thirds of the spread bets at BetMGM were on Oregon to cover.
We’ve seen Lanning work motivational magic with his roster when faced with doubters. Maybe he’ll use Herbstreit’s messaging to fire up his team. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
