The first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled on Nov. 4. In the meantime, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit shared his top 5 prior to the official CFP rankings.

During his Nonstop podcast with Joey Galloway, Herbstreit listed Ohio State at the top, followed by Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia. However, Herbstreit believes the committee could aim to stir it up by putting Indiana at No. 1 ahead of the defending national champions in its initial rankings.

“Historically the committee with their first rankings likes to be different. They like people to talk about their rankings,” Herbstreit said. “Wouldn’t shock me if Indiana, maybe because they’ve been so dominant every week, might be [No.] 1. But me personally it doesn’t bother me 1 way or the other.”

Ohio State is coming off a 38-14 victory vs. visiting Penn State and will head to Purdue on Saturday (1 p.m. ET/Big Ten Network). Indiana routed Maryland 55-10 last weekend and will face host Penn State on Saturday (12 p.m.).

The first CFP rankings will be announced on Nov 4. at 8 p.m. on ESPN. There’ll be four more weeks of Tuesday rankings before the final installment on Selection Sunday (Dec. 7, 12 p.m.).
