It’s no surprise to fans who have followed college football this year that Texas quarterback Arch Manning has been struggling. With expectations through the roof, Manning has been anything but them.
Manning has thrown for 579 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions through 3 games. Against Ohio State, Manning struggled to complete even the most routine passes. He finished the game with 170 yards on 56.7% completion and 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Many have wondered if the expectations were just too much for such an unproven talent.
Kirk Herbstreit weighed in on Manning on College GameDay, stating that he believes Manning’s problem is more mental than physical.
Herbstreit said, “I think it just shows you the power of the mind and how they [the expectations] impact his mechanics because this guy knows how to throw the ball, but he’s being impacted because of all this weight taking a toll.”
The Texas Longhorns and Manning have 2 games before they take on John Mateer and the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry. It will be paramount for Manning to find his stride in these games if he and Texas want a chance to win against Oklahoma.
Texas will take on Sam Houston later today at 8 p.m. ET.
