Kirk Herbstreit has updated his personal top 4 for the College Football Playoff after Alabama’s upset of Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.
According to Herbstreit, Michigan, Washington and Texas are safely into the field. The Huskies and Longhorns won the conference title games this weekend while Michigan is a 21-point favorite over Iowa in the Big Ten title game on Saturday night.
That leaves Florida State and Alabama to battle over the final spot, per Herbstreit. This prediction came out prior to kickoff of the ACC title game on Saturday night. Georgia was not mentioned in Herbstreit’s top 5.
“As we sit here right now, if Florida State wins, I think Texas goes to 3 and I think the 4 debate is undefeated Florida State out of the ACC vs. the SEC champion with 1 loss, Alabama,” Herbstreit said. “I think the committee would probably favor Florida State but I think it’s a wide open race.”
Here’s his full analysis on the CFP debate entering the evening slate:
WOW… we wanted chaos and we got it!! ???

If Herbstreit’s scenario plays out the way he predicted it could, the SEC would be left out of the College Football Playoff for the first time ever.
The final CFP rankings will be revealed on ESPN at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
