Jeff Lebby isn’t quite done at Ole Miss. Lebby is departing to be on Brent Venables’ Oklahoma staff, but he’ll call plays for the Rebels in the Sugar Bowl, head coach Lane Kiffin confirmed.

“We’re happy for him,” Kiffin said of Lebby, per 247Sports. “Going back to his alma mater. It’s a great opportunity for him. He did an unbelievable job here, so he’s going to finish this thing off, which is awesome. Basically this team…like we’ve talked about…no matter what it takes…You’re not seeing players opt out. It’s a special team and he’s a huge part of that. He’s doing work there. He’ll be back later this week. We respect kind of dual scheduling with him, so he can get that job and do this, too, similar to what has happened. Usually it’s a head coach like being at Alabama when you get a head job or something, but we’re doing it with a coordinator.”

With Lebby heading to Oklahoma, Kiffin will need a new offensive coordinator. Kiffin was asked about a timeline for filling that staff position.

“I don’t,” Kiffin said of a timetable, per 247Sports. “We’ve been busy recruiting. You want to make the right hire, so I really don’t have any information on that, except for those are big shoes to fill. (Lebby) did a great job.”

Ole Miss faces Baylor in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. It will likely be the first of many times Lebby schemes against Dave Aranda’s Baylor defense while at Oklahoma.

Under Lebby, the Rebels were No. 4 in total offense among FBS teams, while Matt Corral’s 3,339 passing yards were No. 15.
