Lane Kiffin expands on ‘imagine if we had pro players’ halftime comment
The LSU Tigers spotted the Clemson Tigers three points following an early turnover on Saturday night. They rattled off 31 unanswered first-half points after that, carrying a four-touchdown lead into the halftime locker room. Naturally, after his team gave him the opportunity, Lane Kiffin couldn’t pass on the chance to tease.
Kiffin joked about what the score would be if LSU had pro players during a halftime conversation with Holly Rowe. Postgame, he elaborated on his comments.

“It is what it is… everybody hates you. They can’t hate you that much more,” Kiffin, who cracked a smile as the media scrum laughed, said. “There you go. You’ve got another line.”
Kiffin shifted attention back to his players following his quip, crediting them for playing incredibly well.
“I’m just really glad they played the way they did, so [the chaos around the program] wouldn’t have been the story,” Kiffin said. “Even if we won close, kind of ugly, the whole story would have been, ‘man, [Lane] screwed the team up.'”
The Tigers, riding as high as they possibly could be, face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Week 2 before returning to Kiffin’s old stomping grounds, Ole Miss, in Week 3. Kickoff between the two Pelican State schools is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (SEC Network+) on Sept. 12.
