Lane Kiffin hilariously explains why he never played in the Alabama staff basketball games
Through the years, numerous tales have been told about the competitive nature of the pick-up basketball games played by the Alabama football coaching staff that began after Nick Saban took over the program.
One former coach who didn’t take part during his time in Tuscaloosa was Lane Kiffin.
During the weekly SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday, Kiffin explained why he chose not to play.
“I actually never went over for basketball and I’ll tell you why,” Kiffin said. “… (Saban) picked the team, who guards him and you can’t foul him.”
Kiffin simply said that sort of setup “wasn’t in his DNA.”
This weekend, it will be all about football and not basketball, however, as Ole Miss and Alabama face off in Oxford in what is a critical game in the SEC West race.
Saturday’s matchup between the Rebels and Crimson Tide will be televised by CBS at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
