Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss expected to hire familiar face as team’s new offensive coordinator

Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have their next offensive coordinator, according to On3 Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Kiffin is expected to reach into his past and hire Charlie Weis Jr. for the vacant position. Kiffin and Weis, who’s now 28, worked together at FAU in 2018-19, as Kiffin hired Weis to run his offense in Boca Raton. Weis then moved on to USF as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the last 2 seasons. Weis was also an analyst at Alabama in 2015-16 and worked under Kiffin.
Weis is the son of former New England Patriots offensive coordinator, Notre Dame and Kansas head coach Charlie Weis.
Weis would replace the outgoing Jeff Lebby, who took the same position at his alma mater, Oklahoma. Lebby is one of the nation’s top offensive minds and play-callers, and Weis will have big shoes to fill.
However, Kiffin obviously has a certain comfort level with Weis running his offensive and coaching his quarterbacks. USF ranked 100th in offensive scoring in 2021, averaging 23.2 points per game. Ole Miss, under Lebby, averaged 35.9 points per game.
Kiffin and the Rebels return to play Saturday in the Sugar Bowl against Baylor.
