Lane Kiffin reveals he challenged non-SEC coach to play at Georgia after boasting of top conference
Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels are riding high right now. The team has won 3 in a row, including a huge win over Georgia, and was No. 9 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
Now, it seems like all Kiffin’s team needs to do is win against Florida and Mississippi State to close out the regular season and they should secure a Playoff spot. Five of the top 12 teams in the latest CFP rankings are in the SEC, and Kiffin wants it known that his conference is the toughest in the game.
On Wednesday, Kiffin revealed that he texted a non-SEC coach and told him to try playing at Georgia before saying his conference is tougher.
“Well, I said it earlier: when people want to talk about other conferences or playoffs, or coaches make a statement about their conferences … conference bias … it’s very different going on the road in this conference,” Kiffin said on Wednesday’s SEC teleconference.
“Joking, I sent a text and said to one of these other coaches, he made a statement [about their conference being the best in college football], and I said, ‘Try going to 100 Sanford Drive (home of the Georgia Bulldogs) and see if you still say that. It’s different.”
Kiffin did not reveal which non-SEC coach he texted, but Pittsburgh HC Pat Narduzzi recently claimed that the ACC was the best conference in the country.
The Rebels are 8-2 overall and 4-2 in SEC play. Showing the parity of the conference, the Rebels boast an impressive win over Georgia but also have a bad loss against Kentucky.
