Lane Kiffin says LSU will ‘absolutely’ follow SEC rules if court order is reversed

The SEC’s quest to ban professional athletes from college sports will come to a head on Thursday in Louisiana. Greg Sankey and Co. hope they’ll be able to enforce their ban following their time in court just 72 hours from now.
If the SEC gets its wish, Lane Kiffin — per ESPN’s Heather Dinich — will “absolutely” comply with the new ruling. According to Dinich, Kiffin just wants clarity from the conference regarding the ongoing chaos of college sports.
Kiffin, for better or worse, has become the face of the ongoing effort of 2022 athletes fighting for their fifth year of college eligibility. His attempt to bring Dae’Quan Wright to LSU after the tight end spent training camp with the Cleveland Browns likely played a role in the ruling the SEC’s contesting — saying the conference can’t enforce its ban — being given in the first place.
Is Kiffin the only coach engaging in these actions? No. The SEC has its hands full with numerous basketball situations, ones Kiffin has no impact on. However, Kiffin’s polarity and track record always puts him in the spotlight. His Tigers will be in the spotlight on Saturday night in Week 1, when they battle Clemson to open their season. Kickoff for that contest is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 5 (ABC).
