LaNorris Sellers dazzled on the field on Saturday, and on Monday he got his just reward, being named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 9 masterpiece of a performance in a victory at Oklahoma.
The South Carolina junior quarterback can make his share of mistakes, but when he’s on, he’s on, and he was on during the Gamecocks’ 42-25 victory in Norman. The win engineered by Sellers didn’t just get South Carolina to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the SEC, it launched the suddenly surging Gamecocks into Sunday’s new AP Top 25.
Thanks to Sellers’ dual-threat dynamic game on Saturday, South Carolina now has a number next to its name, being ranked 23rd going into Week 10.
Sellers did throw 2 more interceptions on Saturday, bringing his season total to 7, but he made up for those picks and then some last Saturday against the Sooners. He completed 19 of 24 passes for 301 yards and 3 touchdown passes, and that was only half of his story.

Oklahoma couldn’t contain Sellers through the air or on the ground, as Sellers went wild with 96 yards rushing on 13 carries and 2 more TDs. So, Sellers accounted for 5 touchdowns and almost 400 yards of total offense all by himself, and the SEC took note.
On Monday, Sellers was the headline performer on the conference’s weekly honor roll. South Carolins fans ride the ups and downs with Sellers, but in Week 9 he was the gift that kept on giving, leading the Gamecocks to a big road win and leading them into the AP Top 25.
