LSU interim head coach and running backs coach Frank Wilson’s status was up in the air after Lane Kiffin was hired.

It looks like Wilson is heading to familiar territory when the season comes to a close.

Wilson will reportedly join Pete Golding‘s staff at Ole Miss after LSU faces Houston in the Texas Bowl, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer. That game is set for Dec. 27.

Oxford was previously home to Wilson, as he was the Rebels’ running backs and special teams coach from 2005 to 2007 under Ed Orgeron. It’s also a reunion for Wilson and Golding. Golding was Wilson’s defensive coordinator at UTSA in 2016 and 2017 before taking the same role at Alabama under Nick Saban.

Wilson was a popular figure around the Tigers program. He was previously LSU’s associate head coach, running backs coach, and recruiting coordinator from 2010 to 2015. After serving as head coach at McNeese State and then UTSA, he returned to Baton Rouge, serving as associate HC and RBs coach once more.

Wilson was 2-2 as the Tigers’ interim head coach. LSU lost to Alabama in his first game before beating Arkansas and Western Kentucky. It ended its regular season with a loss to Oklahoma.
