LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye’s father, Dwayne, provided details of a car crash Saturday night in Waukesha County, Wisconsin that left his son injured and claimed the lives of Nebraska punter sam Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler.
โAll he remembers is that the fire was burning his leg and that woke him up,โ Dwayne, who traveled to Wisconsin on Sunday to be with his son, told The Advocate. โHe was knocked unconscious. The burning sensation revived him. Thatโs all he remembers. He doesnโt even know how he got out. He doesnโt know where he crawled out of.โ
The crash left Delahoussaye with second-degree burns on his left leg, stitches to his head and bruises around his hips and chest areas. The senior, who is presumed to be LSU’s starting placekicker, is still unclear whether he’ll be available for preseason camp on Aug. 4 according to his father. He also revealted that he LSU is calling in a “burn specialist” to treat the wounds, which take 10-21 days to heal, according to medical websites.
โHeโs doing well considering,โ Dwayne said of his son. โHeโs hurting a good bit, but Colby โฆ he just keeps on going.โ
Specifics of the crash aren’t completely known and theย remains are still being investigated by the Waukesha County Sherrif’s Department. All three players were in Wisconsin for a weekend kicking camp at Wales, Wisconsin, which is located about 30 miles west of Milwaukee. The vehicle was en route to a wedding reception before the accident, Dwayne Delahoussaye confirmed.
โThey were going to a little wedding reception. People were excited to see them. They knew these boys,โ he said. โThey were on their way there.โ
