LSU LB Donnie Alexander patiently waiting for his time to shine

When you play on a team like LSU, with several NFL-worthy defenders in every class, you have to wait your turn to show off what you can do.
That’s what junior LB Donnie Alexander is doing this season, though he still has 41 tackles in 2016.
He told ESPN.com that he’s hoping to follow in the footsteps of Deion Jones (a rookie for the Atlanta Falcons) and 2016 senior LB Duke Riley, who will likely be selected in the 2017 NFL Draft:
“When you’re on a team like this that has a lot of good players, sometimes you’re going to have to tuck your tail and just keep competing until you get that chance,” said Alexander, a junior who is seventh on the team with 41 tackles. “And once you get that chance, just let everything show. That’s kind of like what Deebo [Jones] and Duke have done.”
Alexander put in his time on special teams this season, leading the Tigers with 16 tackles in kick coverage.
With senior LB Kendell Beckwith out for the Tigers’ bowl game against Louisville on New Year’s Eve, Alexander will be forced to start contributing more now rather than waiting until his senior year begins.
Check out Alexander and the Tigers’ defense as they try to slow down Heisman winner Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals. The game kicks off at 10 a.m. Central time on New Year’s Eve and can be seen on ABC.
