LSU saw its 2026 recruiting class shrink by 1 early Saturday.
Jakai Anderson told Hayes Fawcett of On3 that he is now committed to play for SMU.
Out of New Orleans McDonogh 35 High School, Anderson is listed at 6-feet tall and 160 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Anderson is rated 4-stars, the No. 10 player in the state of Louisiana, No. 39 wide receiver and No. 226 prospect overall in the Class of 2026.
Anderson had been verbally committed to play for Brian Kelly at LSU since June 22, 2024. Less than a year later, he had a change of heart.
LSU and SMU are not the only teams to recruit Anderson. He has scholarship offers from 12 programs, with Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Memphis and Tulane among the other programs to show interest.
Without Anderson, LSU’s 2026 class is down to 10 verbal pledges. The class was ranked No. 6 nationally on the Composite with Anderson in the fold.
SMU has been hot on the recruiting trail. Anderson gives the Mustangs 9 verbal commitments for 2026, with 6 of those pledges coming in the past month. On the Composite, SMU had the No. 29 class before adding Anderson.
