LSU has a really big game on tap for Saturday afternoon, as the 10th-ranked Tigers visit 17th-ranked Vanderbilt in a battle to see which 5-1 team can avoid its 2nd loss of the season.

It’s an SEC headliner that will kick off ABC’s Week 8 coverage at noon ET, and LSU looks like it’ll be bringing those snazzy white helmets for the occasion. On Wednesday afternoon, LSU football’s social media account posted the Tigers and Commodores helmets together, and guess what color LSU’s helmet was in the post?

Well, it wasn’t the usual yellow helmet, we’ll say that. It was instead a white helmet, which LSU also does wear on occasion. It looks like 1 of those occasions will be Saturday afternoon in Nashville, with the LSU football post including the headline: “It’s a Top-20 Matchup in Nashville.”

Now, LSU hasn’t yet revealed what its uniform combo will be for Saturday’s game, but it’s pretty clear what helmets the Tigers will be wearing.

LSU’s usual yellow helmet is a classic design that has mostly remained the same since 1956. But that doesn’t mean the Tigers always wear those classic yellow helmets.

In fact, the white helmets are the most commonly used alternate headwear for LSU football. The white helmets made their first appearance in the 1997 Independence Bowl against Notre Dame, and they were featured again a decade later in 2007 to promote relief for Hurricane Katrinia. Once in a while, those white helmets make an appearance in a game, and that appears to be the case this Saturday on national TV in Nashville.
