Matt Barrie wonders if Bobby Petrino and Jimbo Fisher will be ‘combustible beyond all belief’

Matt Barrie and Paul Finebaum returned from an offseason break to discuss interesting storylines entering the college football season. Near the top of the list is Texas A&M and the coaching partnership of Bobby Petrino, the new offensive coordinator, and coach Jimbo Fisher.

“I find that this has either an explosion of success, or combustible beyond all belief,” Barrie said. “The pairing of Jimbo Fisher and Bobby Petrino at Texas A&M, which to me, feels like a last ditch effort for Jimbo to finally get Texas A&M over the hump, because at this point, Paul, it’s been close, but has not been executed to what I think people in Aggieland thought would happen.”

Despite Petrino’s personal scandals, Finebaum maintains that he is one of the top playcallers of this generation of coaches, and Fisher figured he had to at least go through the motions.

Finebaum figures it will work short term, but he wonders if a 3rd down call fails and how that would unfold since Fisher is not one to take much blame himself, and would likely throw Petrino under the bus.

“I think it was the right call, it was a desperate call, but it was the right call,” Finebaum said.
