Matt McMahon is turning some heads in the SEC as LSU is getting off to a strong start in Year 2.
McMahon’s squad picked up a big win on Wednesday night, topping No. 22 Ole Miss 89-80. After the game, McMahon took some extra time to celebrate with LSU fans at Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Really cool to see Matt McMahon celebrating with the students after the game.
Probably the biggest win of his career at LSU and his focus is on continuing to build the buy-in and fan support of the team.

While it may not be the headlining win of McMahon’s LSU tenure, as the Tigers knocked off a No. 9-ranked Arkansas team in Year 1, it’s certainly one of the most significant. Four games into SEC play, LSU is now 3-1. The Tigers went 2-16 in conference contests last season.

Jordan Wright led LSU’s effort with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals on Wednesday night.
“The best game I’ve played in an LSU uniform,” Wright said after the game via the team website. “The atmosphere was electric tonight. The students and fans really came out and supported us. I am excited for the rest of the season. The support tonight was incredible. This is exactly what I wanted and the reason I came back. I wanted this to play in this type of environment and win these types of games against a top-25 opponent. It was incredible.”
The Tigers will look to make it a winning streak when Texas A&M visits Baton Rouge on Saturday. LSU is seeking to sweep the Aggies, after winning 68-53 in Bryan-College Station on Jan. 6.
McMahon’s Tigers are one of four SEC squads sitting at 3-1 heading into the Saturday slate. Auburn and Alabama are atop the conference standings as the only squads to open 4-0 in SEC play.
