After the Miami Dolphins selected former Mizzou DE Charles Harris in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, he appeared in all 16 games, but only recorded two sacks and 15 tackles.
Heading into the 2018 season, the team is anticipating him having a much bigger impact as a second-year defender.
In fact, head coach Adam Gase recently said he’s not worried about Harris at all, saying it’s tough for defensive linemen to transition to the NFL (via the Palm Beach Post):
โHeโs one of the guys Iโm least worried about,โ Gase said.ย โItโs always interesting that first year when d-ends come in from college, that transition from play-action passes or the run game, then have to transition to a pass. Itโs not as easy as you think. When itโs third down, you can see thatโs really where heโs more comfortable.
โThe more football he plays, the better heโs going to get. I thought he had a pretty good year this year. He did a lot of good things and weโre excited about what he showed us.โ
The Dolphins lost star defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason, so there will be more pressure on Harris.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the former Tiger responds.
