Michigan defeated Oklahoma 17-10 on Saturday afternoon, handing the Sooners their first loss of the 2026 season.
The Wolverines took a 10 lead into the halftime break and continued to play well on defense in the second half. Oklahoma managed a 90-yard scoring drive in the 3rd quarter, but failed to find the end zone again after that.
The big play came midway through the 4th quarter with the score tied 10-10. Facing a 3rd and long, Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer threw an interception that was returned inside the 5 yard line. The Wolverines scored a couple of plays later to make it 17-10.
From there, Oklahoma’s offense never found its footing again. In the 4th quarter, the Sooners averaged just 2.3 yards per play and went 0-for-5 on 3rd and and 0-for-2 on 4th down.
Mateer finished the game with 189 passing yards on 33 attempts to go along with 1 TD and 1 interception.
On the other side, Michigan got improved play from quarterback Bryce Underwood. He completed just 53% of his passes, but found enough big plays downfield to throw for 111 yards on 17 attempts. More importantly, Underwood led Michigan in rushing with 87 yards and 1 touchdown.
Oklahoma’s schedule doesn’t ease up with matchups against Georgia and Texas coming before mid-October.
