Texas A&M has regressed to a 4-4 record after making the College Football Playoff last season. A major reason is the play of quarterback Marcel Reed, who has struggled.

The senior has thrown as many touchdowns as interceptions (8). Reed threw 2 picks in Texas A&M’s most recent game, a 31-20 loss at Alabama on Oct. 24. Aggies head coach Mike Elko considered inserting sophomore backup Brady Hart into the game but ultimately decided against it.

Elko explains why Hart is still waiting his turn.

“We feel like Brady gets a ton of opportunities to showcase where he’s at, a ton of opportunities to show us whether or not he’s ready to go or step in and be the guy,” Elko said. “The challenge to him has been if you want opportunities, there is a level we need to see to be able to do that.”

Hart has completed 12 of his 21 passes for 143 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception in his limited reps this season. As a freshman, he went 5-for-10 for 62 yards with a 102.1 passer rating. Coming out of high school, Hart was the No. 31 quarterback overall and No. 60 prospect from Florida in the Class of 2025 according to 247Sports.

Texas A&M returns to action on Nov. 7 at South Carolina. If Reed gets off to another poor start, it’ll be interesting to see if Elko finally gives Hart his shot.
