Mike Elko says benching Marcel Reed ‘doesn’t feel like’ it would help Texas A&M

Texas A&M is falling apart at the seams.
The Aggies fell 27-6 to No. 14 Mizzou on Saturday in a game that wasn’t close after the first quarter. Part of the reason it was not close is because QB Marcel Reed once again turned in a poor effort, completing just 19 of his 38 passing attempts for 187 yards, 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. For the second time this season, Texas A&M failed to score a touchdown against an SEC opponent.
Not ideal.
Reed has had a rough go of it in 2026. His 45.1 QBR ranks among the worst in the county, and he’s thrown as many interceptions (6) as he has touchdowns. His 57% completion percentage is among the worst in the SEC, and he’s struggling to push the ball downfield without utilizing throws behind the line of scrimmage.
Following the game, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko was asked why he has not yet made the switch to backup quarterback Brady Hart. Here’s what he had to say:
“It just doesn’t feel like that’s the move that would help us,” Elko said, via KBTX writer Travis Brown. “I will do whatever I believe is the right thing for this team to do, for sure… We’re trying to figure out what the right thing to do is. That just doesn’t feel like the right thing at the moment.”
Whatever Elko is going to do, he’d better do it fast. The Aggies are 3-3 on the season, already well behind the 8 ball for the College Football Playoff. Not only that, but the Aggies are also 1-3 in SEC play, near the bottom of the conference.
Is it basketball season yet?
