Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach had high praises for LSU’s Brian Kelly Monday afternoon in his press conference.
Leach praised Kelly’s leadership style and his ability to take command rather than sit and watch.
“I’ve always liked him,” Leach told reporters Monday, per Stefan Krajisnik of the Clarion Ledger. “He’s a guy that takes the Xs and Os seriously. There’s a few sweater-wearers. They just want to wear the sweater and point various directions and things like that — just kind of a PR figure. But he’s not.”
Leach, who is in his third season at Mississippi State, has been in a similar position as Kelly. He came to the SEC after spending years in the Pac-12, a weaker conference. Kelly comes from conference-less Notre Dame and faces a tall challenge ahead of competing in the strongest conference in football.
Leach and the Bulldogs are off to a 2-0 start, while Kelly and LSU are 1-1 so far.
