Mike Locksley is out as Maryland’s head coach after being at the helm since 2019. However, the 56-year-old native of the DMV area doesn’t hold any resentment from being fired by the Terrapins.
Locksley added that he has no desire at the moment to pursue another college football head coaching job but is open to NFL and college offensive coordinator roles. Under Locksley, Maryland went 39-54 but won all 3 of their bowl games in that span.
Maryland is 2-5 this season and currently on a 12-game losing streak in Big Ten play. Yet, Locksley will look back fondly on his time in College Park.
“To be honest I kind of knew it was coming, just didn’t know when,” Locksley said via ESPN. “I’m not mad about leaving. I’m not. I’m at peace with it because I know it’s better than what it was when I got here. A player died right before I got here and this place was burnt to the ground. Stabilized it, went to three bowls, NIL kicks in, and wasn’t prepared for it.”
Locksley was slated to earn $6.4 million in his eighth season on a deal that goes through 2028. He’s owed a buyout of $9.75 million, according to ESPN.
