Mississippi Army National Guard performs flyover at College GameDay in Oxford

Oxford Police increased security this weekend because Lane Kiffin‘s LSU Tigers are in town to face the Ole Miss Rebels. There were rumors of the National Guard being activated for the event, too. While those were quickly deemed inaccurate, the National Guard did end up making an appearance.
Early Saturday morning, Mississippi’s Army National Guard conducted a flyover during College GameDay.
“It’s only for pageantry,” Rece Davis said. “They’re just sending in the Mississippi Army National Guard for the pageantry of it.”
College GameDay also had a flyover in Austin last week for the Ohio State-Texas matchup. That one, which coincided with Pat McAfee’s final pick of the day, came at the end of the program.
Ole Miss is ready to put on a show in every respect on Saturday. The Rebels are a proud fanbase and team, and Lane Kiffin scorned them by leaving on the brink of their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. His decision forced Ole Miss — who reached the CFP semifinals — to fight for a championship without a large chunk of its coaching staff. In the process, Kiffin may have robbed the Rebels and himself of a long-desired national title.
