While the transfer portal closed on Friday, schools have two business days to officially put players into the transfer portal.
Mississippi State made major improvements in Year 2 under coach Jeff Lebby. In his first season in Starkville, the Bulldogs won only two games, and didn’t win an SEC game. This past season, the Bulldogs won five games and made it to a bowl game.
The redshirt sophomore started 12 of 13 games this season, after starting nine games in his first two years at Akron. He is the second offensive lineman to leave Mississippi State recently, as Zack Owens transferred to Missouri.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, James was a 3-star recruit and the No. 164 offensive lineman in the country during his recruiting cycle.
