The modern age of college football has become increasingly characterized by star players from across the country coming to their respective coaching staffs at the end of the season and seeking to renegotiate their NIL payments for the upcoming season.

In this new landscape, coaching staffs have been faced with a choice between paying even more for players that are likely to be key pieces on their upcoming rosters, or watching them hit the portal and join another program that is willing to pay them what they are asking for.

The Missouri Tigers are one of the many teams across the nation participating in this new game, as they have just announced that star running back Jamal Roberts has officially re-signed with the team for the 2026 campaign.

A 3-star player in the 2023 recruiting cycle, Roberts burst onto the scene in 2025 as the foil to Ahmad Hardy, rushing for 753 yards and 6 touchdowns on 124 carries, and he averaged 6.1 yards per attempt.

The dynamic duo of Hardy and Roberts was the driving force for head coach Eli Drinkwitz‘s offense this year, and retaining both of them was priority number 1 for the head man in Columbia heading into the offseason.

Hardy resigned with the Tigers shortly before their Gator Bowl appearance in December, and now Mizzou will have both of their star tailbacks in the fold for 2026 with the announcement of Roberts’ return.
