NC State and Virginia will no longer meet in Brazil later this fall.

Instead, the ACC foes will face off in Charlottesville. The programs jointly announced that decision on Wednesday morning. Here’s an excerpt from the press release announcing the change:

Following extensive review with operational partners and international stakeholders, the 2026 NC State at Virginia football game, originally scheduled to be played in Brazil, will be relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia, for this conference matchup.

This change follows communication from Athlete Advantage, which informed the ACC and participating schools that the event could not be conducted.

This game was initially set to be played during Week 0 on Aug. 29. NC State and Virginia received a waiver to play during Week 0 due to the international location. Now that the game will be played in Charlottesville, NC State and Virginia say they are “working with the NCAA and ESPN” to confirm the originally-scheduled date will remain.

Both NC State and Virginia are currently scheduled for idle weeks in Week 1. If the NCAA does not allow the teams to play in Charlottesville in Week 0, it’s possible the game could be moved back a week.

This year’s Week 0 slate is headlined by a game between North Carolina and TCU in Dublin, Ireland.
