Alabama, despite losing to Tennessee Wednesday, was revealed as the No. 1 team in the nation according to the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee Saturday morning.

The Crimson Tide are taking advantage of a semi-strange field in college basketball this season. parity is at an all-time high, with no real dominant team rising to the top. Alabama and Purdue have shown to be the closest this season, but Purdue just lost to Maryland and Alabama has seen failing against Oklahoma and Tennessee in recent weeks.

On the NCAA March Madness Bracket Breakdown Preview show Saturday, chairman Chris Reynolds explained why they have the Crimson Tide on top:

“The No. 1 team is Alabama on the strength of 13 wins in the Quad 1 and 2,” Reynolds said. “They have a very strong résumé and that win at Houston put them over the top.”

Alabama is still in excellent shape at the top of the SEC and can soon lock up a 1-seed in the SEC Tournament. The Crimson Tide have some walks in the park against Georgia and South Carolina before facing Arkansas, Auburn and Texas A&M to end the year.
