Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby is eligible for 2026, thanks to a court decision that has sent shockwaves across the college football world.
A district court judge in Lubbock County Texas ruled Monday that the NCAA cannot prevent Sorsby from โpracticing, playing or otherwise participating on Texas Techโs football team for the 2026 season.”
The NCAA released a statement Monday morning in response to the court order.
“The NCAA strongly disagrees with the courtโs ruling in Sorsby’s case and is deeply concerned about the damaging, far-reaching and broadly destabilizing ramifications of this outcome โ which undermines and corrupts the integrity of sports. The NCAA is committed to supporting student-athlete mental health but must continue to aggressively defend against actions that defraud college athletics and threaten competitive integrity, such as betting on one’s own sport.”

Sorsby was banned for gambling. He reportedly placed numerous bets on Indiana while he was a member of the Hoosiers. His repeated sports betting continued over the years as he transferred to Cincinnati and most recently Texas Tech.
Sorsby will serve a 2-game suspension, a punishment Texas Tech suggested during the appeals process with the NCAA before the suit seeking an injunction to play. The Red Raiders play Abilene Christian and Oregon State in their first two games before Houston in Week 3.
