College football brings out the best of people. For AL.com’s Joe Goodman, that meant embracing a rivalry and putting some skin in the game. Now, he’ll be getting his skin permanently altered.

Earlier this week, Goodman gave Auburn so little chance to beat Georgia that he promised to get a tattoo of an eagle is the Tigers won the game. Well, late Saturday night, he watched War Eagle prevail 27-24 over the Bulldogs.

“Ha ha ha,” Goodman laughed on the Neyland Stadium sideline as Alex McPherson’s game-winning field goal sailed through the uprights. “War Eagle!”

Shortly after Alabama’s loss to Tennessee, Goodman published a piece. The title? “A sportswriter ran his mouth about Georgia, and now heโ€™s getting an Auburn tattoo.”

“So, earlier in the week, I might have slightly miscalculated the extreme depth of competition in the SEC,” Goodman wrote. “Georgia was favored by over 20 points, and had won nine in a row in the Deep Southโ€™s Oldest Rivalry. Perhaps I was feeling a little too confident about coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs making it 10.”

Auburn (4-2, 2-2 SEC) can stack conference wins for the first time under Alex Golesh with a victory vs. LSU in Week 8. The Tiger-on-Tiger affair kicks off at noon ET (ABC) on Saturday.
