As the NFL Combine approaches, an interesting prospect to keep an eye on will be Auburn RB Kerryon Johnson, who led the SEC in rushing yards last year.
The former Tiger showed great toughness and a nose for the end zone in 2017, but he’s not being projected as a first-round pick by many analysts.
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock discussed Johnson’s draft stock recently, saying that Johnson is fun to watch and projecting that he’ll hear his name called in the second round (via AL.com):
“He’s a little bit long and leggy, sometimes presents a bigger target because of that, but he’s so athletic, so tough,” Mayock said. “At the running back position I had mentioned seven go in the first three rounds, I’ve got him as a solid second-round pick.”
Johnson can cement his second-round status at the combine, where it’ll be interesting to see how he tests.
Heading into the NFL in 2018, though, Johnson will be one of the most battle-tested rookie backs in the league.
