A topic that has come up a lot this offseason involves Alabama coach Nick Saban’s longevity and how many more years he wants to coach.
He seems to be enjoying what he’s doing, and the Crimson Tide are still dominating the college football world, so who knows how long he plans to stick around.
On Tuesday, Alabama AD Greg Byrne joined “The Paul Finebaum Show” and said he thinks Saban still has the energy of a 50-year-old (via 247Sports):
โI think obviously in recruiting, thereโs always a lot of competition and schools may try to poke holes where they can. I think if you look at it, though, Coach Saban is 66, probably going on 50 from an energy standpoint. We know that heโs going to be coaching for a long time going forward, and thatโs exciting for our program with what heโs already done and then what we intend to do in the future, as well. One of the things weโve talked about is we have incredible history here at the University of Alabama that weโre so respectful of. โฆ But at the same time, too, weโre under historical times today, and we donโt need to take that for granted and we need to continue to move the program forward. Some great organizations out there, whatever it may be in, one of the things that are critical for continued success is obviously honor the past, be very focused on today but then create vision for the future about where youโre going. And thatโs what weโre trying to do right now.โ
Saban already has six national titles (five with Alabama), so he doesn’t have anything left to accomplish at the college level.
However, if he adds a couple more trophies to his collection, he’ll end any debate about who the best coach in college football history is.
