Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide held a scrimmage on Saturday as they continue to prepare for the 2022 season.

The Tide will enter the year as heavy favorites to win the national title, but depth in the secondary could be an issue, especially with key CBs Eli Ricks and Khyree Jackson dealing with injuries during fall camp.

After Saturday’s scrimmage, Saban met with the media, saying Ricks was dressed to play in the scrimmage, but the Tide don’t want to rush him back (via On3 Sports):

“Eli dressed out, went through warmups, but we held him out because he really hadn’t practiced. And — but I think he’ll be ready to go on Tuesday,” Saban said.

As for Jackson, Saban noted that he scrimmaged a majority of the time on Saturday and did well when he played:

“Khyree scrimmaged, about, I’d say two thirds of the time, maybe three quarters of the time,” Saban said. “He’s making progress. He was able to practice the last two days, Thursday and Friday, probably about half the time. So he’s making progress, and I thought he did a nice job today when he was in there.”

It doesn’t seem Saban is too concerned about the minor injuries to the cornerbacks as of now. We’ll see if Ricks and Jackson are ready to go when the season starts on Saturday, Sept. 3, against Utah State.
