Nick Saban reflects on changing nature of Signing Day, says previous version ‘almost obsolete’

Nick Saban has seen a dramatic shift in how recruiting finishes up each season since the Early Signing Day came to be. It’s changed the calendar, and scheduling, dramatically.
“The normal time when people used to visit, December and January, is almost obsolete,” Saban said Friday at a Sugar Bowl press conference. “We may have one player that’s gonna visit in January as of right now. I’m talking about high school players.”
Saban and Alabama have the No. 1-ranked recruiting class and have signed 28 players in the class led by its top-rated signee Caleb Downs out of Hoschton, Georgia, a safety.
Earlier this month, Saban noted that what he likes the most about the 2023 class is the recruits’ character, and said he feels like they’re “the right kind of guys.”
Saban also said that name, image and likeness was part of the recruitment of some players, but he said he couldn’t get involved with that.
