Nick Saban’s former team Alabama picked up a massive upset victory at Georgia last weekend. However, the legendary coach still considers Georgia a contender for the SEC title despite the defeat.
During an appearance on Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham, Saban gave his thoughts on the Bulldogs who he expects to continue to have plenty of bite. Saban also isn’t holding it against Kirby Smart, who has a 1-7 record vs. Alabama as Georgia’s head coach.
“I’m not here to judge Kirby. Kirby does a great job. They got a great team. I think they’re going to be a contender in the end, too,” Nick Saban said. “I think that the ball didn’t bounce their way this time, but if I was anybody in the SEC, I would be thinking that maybe I might have to play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, because I think they got a really good team.”
Next up for Smart and Georgia is a home matchup vs. Kentucky in Week 6. That could be just the recipe to avoid a losing streak as Georgia has a 15-game winning streak against Kentucky dating back to 2010. Kentucky at Georgia is slated for a noon ET kickoff on Saturday (ABC).
