With Leonard Fournette battling an ankle injury for the majority of this season, an opportunity has opened up for sophomore RB Derrius Guice.
The Baton Rouge native stepped up in a big way:

Guice leads the nation with a 9.1 yards-per-carry average. He plays with terrific balance — something aided by his sturdy frame. Possessing quickness and agility, Guice is able to evade defenders with ease as he careens down the field.
Going forward, LSU has a big question to answer: How will the running back rotation shake out? Fournette is a once-in-a-10-year talent. When healthy he’s the best rusher in the country. With that said, an ankle is a tricky injury to come back from — particularly when it comes to the position he plays.
If he’s able to come back within the next two weeks, there’s a good chance Fournette won’t be fully healthy. With this in mind, does Guice step back in a reserve role with only a handful of carries — or will interim head coach Ed Orgeron opt to go for more of a 50-50 look in terms of splitting touches evenly?
It’s certainly something to keep in mind as LSU’s season progresses. Guice is simply playing too well for him to get 3-5 touches per game.
