North Texas coach Seth Littrell expectsย to use a two-quarterback system in Saturday’s game at Florida, according to Gridiron Now. Litrellย said he plans to split reps between freshman Mason Fine and former Alabama graduate transferย Alec Morris against the Gators.

Morris opened the season as North Texas’ starting quarterback, but was replaced byย Fine during last week’s win over Bethune-Cookman. Litrell said he was impressed with the freshman’s maturity and intelligence.

โ€œHeโ€™s just got โ€˜it,โ€™โ€ Littrell said. โ€œHeโ€™s one of those guys who doesnโ€™t get rattled and is extremely smart. One of those guys whoโ€™s a 4.0 student, just understands the system. He has that presence about him. Guys look to him and follow him.โ€

As of now, Fine isย the expected starter for Saturday’s game.

โ€œI thought he brought a lot of energy. His numbers (11-of-22 for 108 yards) werenโ€™t the most impressive thing, just looking at it on paper, but he managed the game very well,โ€ Littrell said.

However, the coach also indicated that Morris’ experience in the SEC would help him see the field as well.

โ€œHe has a lot of experience in these types of games. He understands what theyโ€™re about,โ€ said Littrell, who is in his first season at UNT after spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator at North Carolina.

Morris was a reserve for the Tide from 2012-15 and appeared in one game in 2015.
