Notre Dame has settled on a starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2025 season: CJ Carr.

Carr is the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr. He chose Notre Dame out of high school as a 4-star prospect in the class of 2024. He sat behind Riley Leonard and Steve Angeli last season, but Leonard left for the NFL and Angeli entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason. Angeli landed at Syracuse and also won the starting job earlier this month.
Carr was the No. 68 overall player and the No. 6 quarterback in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’ll now lead a Notre Dame team that has legitimately National Championship aspirations after getting all the way to the title game at the end of the 2024 season.
Notre Dame faces a tough schedule that includes teams such as Miami, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Boise State and USC, among others. Kickoff against the Hurricanes in Week 1 is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 31.
