Notre Dame landed a key commitment on Friday, adding some fireworks to the national 4th of July holiday for the Fighting Irish. In the process, Marcus Freeman and his staff edged out some key SEC competition for the commitment.
The player is Kaydon Finley, one of the top receivers in the country and one of the marquee prospects out of Texas for the 2026 recruiting cycle. Finley is the son of Jermichael Finley, a former standout for Texas in the mid-2000s and a former Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers.
Ultimately, Notre Dame grabbed the younger Finley’s commitment over the Longhorns, Texas A&M, Arizona State and UCLA.

The elder Finley recorded over 900 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns during his time at Texas. He was eventually a 3rd-round pick of the Packers in the 2008 NFL Draft and was a member of the 2013 team that won the Super Bowl.
As for Kaydon, the 6-feet and 200-pound WR prospect is a 4-star recruit and the 14th WR in the country, according to the 247 Sports Composite. He also checks in as the 110th overall player in the country and the No. 15 player out of Texas for 2026.
Landing Finley brings the Fighting Irish up to 23 hard commitments for the cycle, a group that currently ranks No. 3 in the country per the team composite. We’ll see if they can push for the No. 1 overall class.
